Hope you can go out and really enjoy being 21 again, Tricky! Happy birthday! Gonna do a couple shots of tequilla, dance on the bar, shoot out the lights, or save that for next year maybe? We want to see the videos, ya hear?
I know, sounds like something you wish you felt well enough to do! Just smelling a shot of tequilla would be death sentence for me, and I don't have food poisoning!
I carry the gene for hypophosphatasia. So my Alkaline phosphatase is always very low. Do you think my Vitamin D deficiency has any link to that? I know my body doesn't absorb enough calcium because of it.
I drink nothing but water past noon. And have been making myself eat soup at night the last couple days. i finally got an Rx for Percocet. Enough to take twice a day. It's the only thng that enables me to get dressed or take a shower or do the dishes, etc.
It's taken me many dr's to find one who'll help with the pain. Now i hope i don't gain back my 30 lbs!! :)
Although the bra's I bought are too big now! of Course i didn't lose it in my stomach!
Hi P, Sorry for the delayed response. I do not know much about genetic diseases that cause low phosphorus as there are a few different ones. I know that in the intestine, phosphorus is transported to the cells by the active form of vitamin D in the body. The low levels of Vit D explain why your calcium is low since this is one of the big jobs of Vitamin D. If you knew how this gene for low phos affected other important chemicals, esp parathyroid hormone (PTH), I could explain it better. So your low D level explains the low phosphorus but there are disorders that cause all three to be low: phos, vitamin d, and calcium
I can't go in the sun it makes my Lupus flare, so th internist has me taking 3000mg at bedtime. She says it will help me sleep, it's not. I also haven't noticed any difference in the pain. :)
I was suffering so badly, some nights i would lay in bed and clench my jaw trying not to cry out in pain as the bones in my legs pulsed with intense pain! finialy a new Dr. said she had heard that Vit. D is sorta like a catch all for weird or mystery pain. so she put me on 1000 units per day. (didn't help that i only had trace amounts in my system to begin with) and with in a few days the pain was gone!!! but i got lazy and did not take them as i should have and sure enough the pain started to come back. I am a believer now that it is the Vit. D. that is stopping this one pain i am having. now if i could only get rid of the rest. lol
Same here Irishlass. Use to get bad cramps in my lega since I was a child. Started taking vitamin D and the cramps went away. I can streach now. how wonderful.
Check out this breakdown on vitamin D deficiency... like aries said, I've never known a fibro patient to not be deficient, but it looks like the entire population is too. There is some really great info here.
Studies on the ill show that 93% of people admitted to hospital emergency departments with muscle aches, bone pain, and a variety of diagnoses, including fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and depression, are vitamin D deficient. Low back pain is associated with vitamin D deficiency and reports show that improved vitamin D levels result in pain relief.
Honestly the more I read the more i belive in vitamin D. I'm taking 2000 units a day. And it says you can use up to 50,000 units a week. Well I'll ask my doctor about it. It also said vitamin D is an opied and helps with pain. Well it has made my fibro less painful I think. But I take other meds and that could be the helping with the pain.We can only hope getting rid of the pain is that easy. Thanks for the link.
I have no idea why but many of us with fibro are Vitamin D deficient. And lack of a sufficient amount of Vitamin D does seem to relate to bone pain.
I understand that it can take a long time, sometimes up to a year, to get your Vitamin D back up to where it belongs, so be patient if it seems to be a slow process.
i really hope it helps you. A simple solution, and good for your body. Win-win!
Sheesh, well that report is pretty damning on our lifestyles. Staying indoors on our computers has really affected us, I guess. We're meant to be out in the sun, soaking up the rays, it would seem. Those hospital statistics are striking. So if a deficiency of vitamin D causes these pains, can returning to a sufficient level alleviate the pain and fatigue? Or do they stick around? I'd love to see a study done on that premise/question.
Great reading, Dee. Thank you so much for sharing it!
I get leg cramps too, early in the morning when I first stretch my legs. I find that if I'm dehydrated I get them. If I'm hydrated they go away. How intriguing that a lack of Vitamin D can also cause them! I'm glad you figured this out and found a working solution for you leg cramps.
I just re-read it for the 3rd time. man it is a boring read. but any way I agree with you, I could not find the word opiate (assuming that is what you mean) anywhere in the article but here is what i copied what Vit. D in a nutshell does;
Fibromyalgia has been associated with vitamin D deficiency, however this is controversial. As mentioned earlier, low back pain and the Femara® (letrozole) associated pain syndromes respond to vitamin D supplementation, thus suggesting a mechanistic connection. Additionally, Lee and Chen in 2008 reported an observational study in patients with type 2 diabetes, neuropathic pain and vitamin D deficiency who had significant pain reduction with vitamin D repletion, suggesting a possible analgesic effect.
Possible vitamin D mechanisms in migraine and pain:
1. Anti-inflammatory effects mediated through reductions in matrix metalloproteinases, C-reactive protein, tumor necrosis factor-alpha and other inflammatory mediators
2. Analgesic effects
3. Nitric oxide reduction
4. Magnesium absorption increased
hope this helps to straighten up this confusion ;)
I have noticed that since i was taking 1000mg a day the deep bone like pain went away about 90%, my back well so far nothing is helping that. I get spinal injections every 3 months. ( when i had stopped taking the Vit. D. the pains and restless leg has been coming back so yes i have started my Vit. D again and this time i will not stop. lol
