What Types of Jobs Do You Do?

I am curious about the kind of employment others with fibro do? I am looking for work while I write.

cashier at walmart in mich, not easyI have days where Im in tears Walmart has a policy off missing days and you have to have so many work hours to qualify for ada and I didnt have the hours

I am an admissions representative at a college. It has it's ups and downs.

The Good: Decent Salary

Not much physical work

Medical/Dental (I live in Canada so this is additional coverage beyond my normal provincial coverage)

The Bad: I conduct interviews several times a day, I have to be "on" when I do them.

I work from 11:30- 8pm most days of the week so I have almost zero time for anything else.

I can't do this job part time.

Thank you ziggy for your reply. I've a good friend who survived cancer. Cancer left her weak and sick as she had to have a brain tumor removed. She works as a cashier at Walmart.

Thank you Jasmine for your reply. Sounds interesting.

Hi GYN,

I'm a Meals on Wheels driver. It's only 15 hours a week and you help others. But it does have physical aspects to it, like lifting the bags with the meals and loading them into your car, as well as going up and down stairs. It was a good job when my fibro was only in my back but now that it's in my knees, it's killer. But I do like the job a lot.

Hey, Petunia Girl,

Oh, when I was a home health aide, I met nice people from Meals on Wheels. Aww thank you for sharing. To me sitting a long time hurts more than lifting. Sometimes, though, I can't drive.

Oh, I know what you mean!

But hey, I'm trying to be a writer too. Or rather, I AM one but the fibro-induced exhaustion from my job is kinda putting the kabosh on it. Do you mind my asking what type of writing you do?

If you can stand being on your feet and working full-time, PetCo trains people to become dog trainers. The job isn't very physical and is quite interesting. And you can get health benefits from them, too.

Hey Petunia Girl,

I have four fiction novels started with a Christan theme. Not a stained-glass Chrisitan theme, but real life struggles. One of them is a thriller of which I barely started. It's hard to do one at a time. I am also working on my life growing up in Hillsboro, NM story. I have submitted some essays to the Historical Society News Letter there. The editor wants me to write my life story. I am striving to get on a good writing schedule.

That is good that you write. Keep a writing, then before you know it, you will have a finished project. And you, what do you write about?

Ziggy, what is Walmart's policy for missing days?

What is ADA? What do the letters stand for? Is it some kind of insurance?

I have always had home jobs. Usually 3 at once. Sewing, embroidery, calling on clients for various companies, and for 20 years, editing and proofreading. That started before the Internet and now I do it for world wide clients. I also got 250 magazine articles published, which is even easier now with all the online sites in so many categories.

Oh that is awesome! That is my goal: Writing! Thank you for sharing. Any advice on being published on-line?

Retierd now .

I am a student... I study law but I do it from home because I would not be able to guarantee that I am feeling up to working on a particular day etc xx

I lost my job of 24 years. I just couldnt do it anymore. I dont know what to do now. I cant do much, and I dont have the education or experience doing anything else. My job was physical and became too demanding as they went from 8 hrs to 10 hrs a day with mandatory overtime. I couldnt kep up and doctors wouldnt give me anything for pain. Im in serious trouble, the job market here is tiny and at my age, 56, Im not in demand. I have no family to take me in, they have all died or they are not appropriate or have homeless problems of their own.. I seriously think about suicide but dont know how to do it. I feel Im boxed into a corner with no options left. Im terrified.

how do you pay the bills ?

Rachel, ADA is Americans with disability act. It makes employers offer special accommodations for people with disabilities and offers temporary disability, or extended days off. Frustrating that Walmart demands a certain amount of time before they will follow that law. It's supposed to be ffrom day 1, or even before your first day in the States. Soft hugs by the way Rachel. There's supposed to be a meteor shower tonight and tomorrow, so if you have a clear sky tonight, try to see hundreds of falling stars.

Yes, Graveyardnerd (Should I call you gravy for short? HA!) you need to decide which site you would like to be published on, then look at their articles to see the characteristics that they all have in common. A theme or use of certain phrases or words, or other patterns, then adapt your article to their style. I've adapted articles for up to 20 different magazines. It works well. You can look online for "The Writer's Market", which tells which websites accept freelance writers, what they pay per word, and the subject of that online magazine or website. If you can't find it online, you can buy the book. It also talks about the in-print magazines that need freelance writers. Also lists book publishers and all the details about how to submit your book to them etc. I never did get rich but it helped pay a few bills and was so fun to see my name in print. Also if you google "getting published online" there are about half a zoden online companies that buy people's articles and then sell them to larger corporations for their websites.

Oh Debriana I am sorry for what you are going through.

Did you know that Fibro qualifies you for disability? There is social services (Welfare) until you get on disability. I'm so sorry you are going through this. I was at that point at one time as well. Get a good disability lawyer that only charges you a small percentage of your first disability check. I have heard people natin wide who wehnt through Binder and Binder. look them up online.

I wrote uup a page of jobs people can do at home. I'll try to find that document and will post it here. None of them are scam jobs.
