Does anyone else suffer worse in the winter months

Hi i am new to here before i introduce myself, was just wondering if anyone else suffers more in the winter months as i do, i would not say it was easy in the summer but i am twice as worse in the winter.

My name is Shaun 50 years old next month been married for 26 years we have two grown up sons and a grandson, we live in Leicester city 100 miles north of London in England.

I was first diagnosed with my illness in 1999 i am in pain most days some worse than others so unable to work at the moment. This is the first support group i have joined i am looking forward to meeting new people in similar circumstances to myself.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, please feel free to get in touch. Take care, Shaun

Hello Shaun,

Welcome to the group.

I grew up in Northamptonshire UK, have been to Leicester several times, I am an Ex-Nursing Sister and remember being on a course that lasted for 3 months, it was at the Ramada Jarvis (I think!!) Hotel in the centre, we had to stay over as it was a 2 day thing every fortnight!! Funny what you remember!!!

Anyway, I digress!!! I have had fibro pains for about 4 years but was only formally diagnosed in June of last year.

Yes, winter can be a bad time for us, these recent cold heavy winds, that cut right through you play havoc with my pains. So do damp rainy days.

I'm certainly in more pain in the winter, even though I try my best to keep warm. But I think fibro has affected my body's thermostat as I soon get too hot too......unless that's my age....lol....I'm 48 !!!

Most days I feel as though my body is totally up the shoot and my brain has malfunctioned, when I think back to the 12 hour shifts I did on the wards....no way could I do that now.

I resigned from Nursing, after 27 years, in 2011. I have been married for 28 years and have one son aged 25.

I now live in Essex. But my roots/family are in Northamptonshire and regularly zoom up the M25/M1 to see them.....pain allowing!!! I always take my pillows with me!!!

I hope you enjoy being part of the fibro family here, it's been a godsend to me since I joined last July, no matter what the problem, or how you're feeling, there's always someone out there who will reply and support you.

Happy to chat anytime.

Welcome again....Best wishes, Lucy

Hello Shaun

I live in the US and this is the first winter that has been bad on me i usually do worst during the summer. More aches and pains this year and the fatigue has been terrible. I was taken of work in July with Lupus and fibro complications.

Hi shaun1964

My winters are worse usually…This winter in Nevada has not been very cold but it’s been my worse flare. I know the cold makes it worse but sometimes getting hot can make me worse too. I can tell when the weather is changing my body changes too cold and hot, wind, rain, it doesn’t matter. Since the last 6 months. I hate cold water. Cold touch. Light touch. But massage helps. Sounds loud and high pitched. Lights that are too bright. I have many things that make it worse :frowning:
I hope you find comfort here like I have. This is an awesome group.

Hi Shaun. I feel bad in Winter, but I feel worse in Summer. Summer I feel like a deflated balloon. Zero energy. Spring and Fall are my best seasons. Sorry you’re feeling bad. I hope it gets warmer and you feel a bit better.

Hi all, thank you all for your lovely comments, it is very much appreciated. Thank you once again, take care Shaun

Shaun,

I have more pain in the winter. I live in Virginia in the US and its very humid here so cold is colder and hot is hotter. This year the winter has been very bitter cold so I notice that I tense up when I go outside to try and stay warm and then I get stiff and sore and the pain sets in. Like BaltimoreBaby I am a Spring and Fall kind of girl. I can't take the hot summers either, that is when the fatigue sets in. I'm glad you joined our group.

Gentle Hugs,

Stacey

Hello Shaun

I'm glad you found us. This is a very active online support group.

Your winters are humid whereas mine are dry, so that makes a difference. I don't like the heat in the summer where I live, but I am thankful that my house stays quite cool if I close the windows and the blinds during the day.

This winter has been hard on all of us worldwide.

I am affected by the cold in the winter even though I try to avoid going outside.

So, my house becomes my safe place for all seasons.
