He called me early this morning to let everyone know that FEMA got him into a hotel. The strain is gone from his voice, he feels comfortable and secure and is ready to 'do his own thing'.
He has decided that he wishes to stay on the shore, and is willing to wait for the clean up.
I will try to stay in touch with him without crowding him. He say he knows that if he needs anything that he can count on us.
As for Renie, she left word with Rachel that she is still without power, but they are working in her area. Still about 500 people near then without power!
Yes, I was so relieved to hear from him! I am glad that he feels comfortable enough to call me!
I don't know much about Renie, she can sometimes leave a message on the mod site with her phone, but has to go down the road to do so. I know that she also has an elderly mother in law they are watching out for. Just don't know all the details, but I'm sure it has been rough on her. She has like 5 herniated discs, so image being without heat! ugh!
I'm really happy to hear that JC has comfortable accommodations. And I'm glad to hear that he'll stay on the shore. I can't imagine giving up a close-knit neighborhood in such a beautiful locale. I hope things can be put to right in Seaside Heights but it'll take a lot of work. I've seen a few photos and it looks like there was a lot of devastation.
As for Renie, I would be completely around the bend without heat and electricity. Thank God that only a few nights have been cold, the rest have been chilly but not too bad. I do hope that she and the rest of her area get their power back soon!!! Imagine not being able to do much of anything in your house, unless you have gas for cooking and heating (and even those appliances might be powered by gas somewhere along the way.)
Thanks for the update, SK. Things seem to be slowly moving forward for everyone affected.
Yeah that second storm knocked out almost a million power customers that had just gotten their power restored 1 or 2 days before. This is great news about JC, Thanks Susan!
Thanks for keeping us updated, I can’t imagine loosing everything, & having to live in a shelter, fibro is hard enough in the comfort of our home, I’m glad he’s at least in a hotel now, I’m sure it’s more comfortable.
It’s so har to live without gas& electric, we had a storm a few years back, no power for like 10 days it was horrible !!! So I can so relate to what Renie is going through, you get a whole new appreciation especially for heat. After that I went out and bought a propane heater, & lots of lanterns, and camping things in the event it ever happens again. I hope everyone stocks up on batteries, water, and other emergency supplies !
Hugs & blessings
I just talked to JC, he said his landlord has his apt gutted down to the studs, there was 4 feet of water in it, and has a contractor lined up and ready to go. His landlord lives beside him, he has been there for 12 years, so there is a very strong bond.
Oh my gosh! You know that it there was 4 feet of water, basically everything was ruined. Photos and irreplacable stuff being the worst of it.
On the positive side, his landlord is working quickly! I hope it's done fairly soon so he can get back to life on the Shore. Must be nice to have a strong bond with your neighbor/landlord. I know that shore towns are often like that. Bless him and the rest of the residents of Seaside Heights. And everyone else affected by Sandy. The hurricane one, not our Sandy.
