Sore throat

Sorry not been around lately but have been feeling very sad and sorry for myself with everything going on. My aches/pains in the back and other places seems to keep increasing. I had to stop taking the Ibuprofen and Omeprazole as was making more pain below the belly button. So am back to no tablets except Paracetamol which doesn’t really help-only when have headache.
Then few weeks back my stomach was acidy more than usual, coming up to the chest and throat. So, now my stomach isn’t too bad but the throat is still very sore and my voice is a bit croaky. It’s like I have a cold but it’s not a cold. Has anyone got/had same, and what to do about it. I tried salt water gargles and have throat lozenges.
Then our youngest son who lives in north Sweden with his partner, has had a baby boy which we have seen in pics and Skype. Don’t know if/when they can visit with us as bringing a young baby over has its own difficulties, plus expensive, so am feeling very sad about that as well as no way can I see taking such a long journey in my poor state.
Sorry to be such a long post.
Hope everyone is doing ok and had a reasonable Christmas and NY.
SueT.

Dear Sue

I am sorry you are feeling so rough. There is a bug going around and it hits those of us who have Fibromyalga very hard because it makes Fibro even worse. The NHS is overloaded with people who have it. I was told this morning it can take about 3 weeks before it goes. You just need to rest and drink plenty because there is nothing we can do to elivate these horrible symptoms. So try and not get down too much otherwise it will drain your precious energy, which I am sure is not that great anyway!

It’s my understanding, and from my own experience, that you can’t just stop Omeprazole or you will have a bad rebound effect that is even worse than before it started. I would speak to your doctor about weaning off of it, instead of just going off cold turkey, or maybe just staying off the Ibuprofen and staying on the Omeprazole at least for a while until your symptoms get better. Sounds like the sore throat could be coming from the acid reflux. I have experienced that as well but talk to your doctor to see what they have to say. I can’t take Ibuprofen myself, even though it seems to help me with my pain a lot, as it will cause a serious gastritis/acid reflux even while on Omeprazole. I hope you feel better soon!

Hi Rosebud,
Thanks for your reply to my post, there seems to be always some sort of bug or other going round. It has eased off somewhat so keeping my fingers crossed. A nephew of mine had to go to A&E as they thought he had pneumonia he had to wait hours to be seen and my sister had to take him as ambulance wait time was 8 hours. Didn’t even have a bed for 2 days, but he has now. They reckon he has the flu and covid, but more tests to come.

Hi Karen6,
Thanks for the reply to my post. I only took the Omeprazole and Ibuprofen for about 3/4 weeks before I just had to stop them. That was about 2 months ago or so now. Trying to speak to my doctor these days is not easy as NHS is overwhelmed, although that seems to be the normal these days and hard to even get doctor appointment. I figured the throat might be due to the acid reflux, which has eased off somewhat now, thank goodness. If it gets worse again I still have some Omeprazole tabs left so could always take them without the Ibuprofen doctor gave me for arthritis.

Well, good to hear your symptoms are a little better, hopefully you are on the right track then! Take care!
