Does anyone else suffer with tenderness of the underarms? It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does just washing with bar soap under my arms actually hurts. It's the weirdest place to have tenderness.
No. I don't. But, I do get it in other odd places: Like the top of my feet, my entire back - to the point that I have to wear a loose fitting shirt. I call it my "sloppy shirt" because it's actually to big for me but, it's comfortable (smiles). Oh!.. my stomach too. I don't know why it is but, it appears my skin gets sensitive and anything touching it is uncomfortable. And... just down right irritating. It usually only lasts a few hours - Thankfully.
I'm hoping someone has an explanation as to why this occurs (?)
For you - There are lymph nodes in the arm pits. Maybe that has something to do with it - ?

Hello-
I also get this pain. I told my doctor about it and she checked for swollen lymph nodes, which I did not have. My physical therapist told me to pay attention to how I sleep. I often sleep on my side with my arms held tight and hands tucked between my knees (mostly because I'm cold). PT said I should hug a pillow if sleeping on my side to avoid tightening the chest muscles.
I also notice the pain when I have been typing a lot at the office. I believe my desk it at the wrong height. I tend to lift my arms up and outwards to type instead of resting gently on the desk straight in front of me.
I hope this information helps and that you find relief.

Liz,
If you can see and tolerate a massage therapist, you might ask to have Teres Minor worked on. It's a muscle under your shoulder blade on your back. It's about 2 inches long and rests under two other muscles. It's not easy to "get to" to manipulate, but people who spend a lot of time typing at a computer day after day often have problems with this muscle tightening up. It can mess with sooooooooo many other muscles/groups and having it worked on can alleviate a LOT of other bodily pains.
Most of the info you find on the net about this talks about rotator cuff injuries, sports injuries and "frozen shoulder" issues. In my experience as a massage therapist, working on this tiny muscle at the beginning of the massage released the strain in muscles in the back, outer arms, buttocks and down the legs. All muscles are intertwined and connected one way or another. It's sort of like playing pick-up-sticks, if you pull the main one holding everything together, it all collapses.
It can also be the cause of numbness in the 4th and 5th fingers and muscle discomfort of the muscles of the outer arm. Holding the pillow while sleeping will stretch out Teres Minor and act as a release for this muscle, but sometimes, you need "hands on" to help things along :)
Yes I have occasional tender arm pititis, besides muscles we have a lot of limp nodes passing thru there, it maybe that deodorants could cause this, so I just quit using deoderant for a couple days and shower more often to see if it goes away.hope this helped
