Well another new Fibro symptom has reared its ugly face at me.
Do any of you get extreme pain in your legs? My pain starts at the top of my legs and radiates down to my ankles...its very painful...I woke up crying a few times the other night. When I walk, I need to take it slowly, it actually feels as though both my legs are broken...like what the hell is going on now..they ache continually, all day and night at times getting worse in my shins...there is nothing I have been doing differently..I haven't started my new exercise routine because I am waiting for the results on my Heart Xrays and ECG. I am fed up...I mean really...what next????
Anyways just wondering if any of you have experienced this type of pain in these areas..if so please let me know...!!!!
Jesse- Iam currently experiencing electric- like jolts up and down my legs. I feel like I’ve been electrified. I think some members call them leg zappers. They are so annoying and by the end of the day my legs hurt bad. I feel like I am always walking on ice, as I’m afraid I might lose my balance, which happens.
I hope your pain lessens soon so you can start your new exercise program. Wish you well ~ hugs~ Sandi
So very sorry you are experiencing this, I have it, and mine is from my spine, yours could be from those bad discs as well. I can only relate it to child birth labor, as there is nothing else like it that I have ever experienced. The Lyrica helps tremendously with this, and as far as the feeling like you have 'shin splints', that could be referred pain, I have also had this happen when my pelvis tilts, the only thing that will help that is a chiropractic adjustment. The Daypro, (Oxaprozin is generic name) anti-inflammatory drug helps significantly with joint and bone pain. The only other person I know on site that takes this is bigflare, and it helps her as well.
Lyrica 225mg, 3xdaily, Daypro 600mg, 3xdaily. Of course the Enbrel helps everything, and I also have 10 mg Opana and I have Ethyl Chloride spray that numbs me for hours, as a matter of fact, it is going to be one of those nights that I am going to have to be sprayed.
I recommend this spray to anyone with considerable spinal degeneration, or injury, it is about the only thing that really touches it. You have to be very careful not to inhale it, as it is an anesthetic, so the room has to be well ventilated. It is freezing cold, so I suggest you bite down on something should you use this.
Be very careful of the type and intensity of exercises you do with your disc problems, use those approved by an MD, a DC or a PT and start off slowly.
Be good to yourself, my friend, we all love and care about you!
I did experience that God awful pain in my legs, especially around my knees. But then I found a doctor 2 hours away from home that has helped me with my excruciating pain. I take 6 omega 3’s a day now!
Hi SK I am so sorry to hear you are going throw this. I have had this in both legs for months ( still on going ) my knees are very bad now and I also cry with the pain. I have tryied loads of things but only thing works for me is tights on ( pressure on legs ) or ice cubes in a towel placed on my legs, it will go very cold but it works for me and I spoke to my consultant about this and he said it was Ok to do this. Just have a go you never know xxxxx All the best I hope you feel better very soon x
No ... thank God! sounds horrible. so sorry! My fibro seems mild compared to the rest of you, although I've been know to have a high pain tollerance??? I'm on Cymbalta and 3-4 Vicodin a day for my issues. I consider it working if it keeps my mind off of my pain, but of course I'm never totally without pain. My worst pain is my headaches.
I'm having high cholesteral, trygliceride, high blood pressure issues. Beginning a different diet so maybe some things will change. Of course, every day is a new day with.... the "F" WORD!! Don't mean to offend but, that's what I call it!!!
I get really bad head pains as well it is horrible, I have 6 conditions ( 1 is Fibro ) x I love this site it has really helped me. I take 17 tablets a day and pain patchs, and still I have pain. I feel for you all as I know how you all feel xx
Yes, I have the exact same thing and its horrible. In fact, its been at its worst today. My radiates up and down the leg. It sometimes concentrates in the shin and it aches right to the bone. I feel like my bone is diseased it hurts so bad. And, the nerve pain is awful. Sometimes it gets concentrated in my foot and its horrible. It just stays there and I can't relax my foot or my leg. Right now it is concentrating all over but especially in my thigh. I hate it!! I feel like I'm crazy. I've mentioned it to my DR again and again and she says nothing. I've had so many other tests for it and all show up NEG that I feel like I can't even ask for an xray. I have had the ECG, etc, been to the neurologist, had injections in my spine - nothing! It must be just another great symptom in the fibro hell.
You are not alone.. it is a horrible symptom but one a few of us seem to have. Are you on pregabalin (lyrica) or gabapentin? If so you may need a dose increase and if not you may need to go on it. It certainly sounds like nerve induced pain in your case. Have you had any form of spinal damage? xx
Jesse, I just love to see you on here. Missed you this week.
Yes, I get bad pain in my legs. I have always thought mine was nerve pain caused by disc replacement surgery in my lower back. Maybe not. It hurts worse when I lay down at night. On top of that I have very painful coldness in my right foot and leg. Every night. It takes 2 hours for it to go away and my foot to get warm. That coldness is now starting to spread up into my thigh. I don't know what it is, but it hurts like ____.
I did a real boo boo and tried reducing my Lyrica for a couple of weeks. I paid dearly. The leg pain was excruciating and I felt a lot like crying too. Mike is right about the meds.
Omg just spotted your discussion in my emails and I know exactly what you mean! My arms, starting from neck and shoulders all the way down my hands have started doing the same since November and I had to go for a physio assessment only a few days ago to be told the “same ol’” it’s prob the fibro. My doc thought it was a trapped nerve etc and my legs started like this two months ago aswell and I was so scared but still not convinced what it was. It plays on your mind wondering if this is something more serious than fibro.
It’s worse at night and when lying down. I eventually get to sleep then wake up crying so hard in unimaginable pain and in almost a paralysed state and really freak out my partner. Bless him. It’s like my arms and legs have seriously been crushed by a monster truck or something. It’s not the usual nerve or muscular or joint pain I’ve had for years at all.
I hope we get to the real root of this problem as I’ve had fibro for eight years now and never experienced it before. Incredibly painful and so scary at times!
I hope this improves for you very soon. Are you getting this followed up with the doctors or consultants in some way?
Ps sorry for missing people’s lovely messages etc and not being on for so long but I saw this and had to say something straightaway.
Jesse,
You are definitely not alone. Do you have any history of sciatica? My pain starts right above my butt and slowly works it’s way down. Any history of RLS? That could be another contributor. I get a steroid shot I believe is prednisone every 6 mos and it does give some relief. I pray you find the answer your looking for.
Elissa
Actually, yes, lately I've been getting horrific pain in my legs. It seems to start at my tender point in the knee and goes into the shin, where it feels like someone is sticking a boiling hot pitchfork into my upper shin. My pain doesn't radiate down any lower but it's so bad that I can barely even walk. I'm thinking that we're suffering from the same thing. And it's awful! I can imagine that you would wake up crying from this pain.
Are you on any meds to help you to sleep? I'm on nortriptyline and it helps me to sleep quite a bit. That being said, every time I moved last night, I felt the bad leg pain.
I've gone to a knee doctor who said my kneecaps are sliding around because they're coming off the track they're supposed to travel on. Help includes going for physical therapy plus wearing god-awful soft braces on the knees. So far I'm still suffering from the pain, but it's early on with the PT.
If I find something that helps with the pain, I'll let you know.
Meanwhile, you have my complete sympathy. Please come back so we can talk about it more. Talking helps to deal with some of the frustration, I find.
Gentle hugs to you and healing thoughts to your sore legs,
It's lovely to see you again and I'm so sorry that your fibro seems to have progressed. I'm with you, I wish doctors would find the root of what is affecting us instead of giving us so-so pain meds. And like you, I worry about having a worse illness that's causing this pain. It's hard not to let your mind go wild when you have such a nebulous illness.
I've got the leg pain too and I'm so sorry that it causes you and JesseBlue to wake up crying. Maybe your night time meds could be adjusted? And the other component, I believe, is having a good, strong anti-depressant. I find that when I'm in a better state mentally that I can deal with the pain better than when I'm depressed and in pain again.
